Logic Instrument has just launched its IP54 certified 8-inch Fieldbook G1 Android tablet with 3G connectivity, aimed at technical and sales professionals, architects, electricians, manufacturing and support team leaders. It is equipped with an 1.2 GHz quad-core processor and running under the mobile device optimized Android Jelly Bean operating system, the Fieldbook G1 is ideally suited to run business applications, whether company-owned or downloaded off-the-shelf applications from the Google Play Store. The integrated 3G module offers a fast mobile data access, while the assisted GPS provides location based data. The integrated 5.0 Mpx camera permits still and video image capture.
The 8-inch IPS screen with 1024 x 768 pixels, features a 5-point multi-touch for keyboard entry and the enhanced backlight permits optimal readability even in bright environments. The IP54 certified water, dust protection and its drop/shock/vibration resistance makes the Fieldbook G1 an extremely practical working tool. Its 6.000 mAh battery should offer a full working day of autonomy. The G1 weights 568 grams and is 11mm thick, so you will also build up muscles while holding it.
The model looks very simillar to the Quechua Tab 8, a rugged tablet from Decathlon which was set for the release back in January. Unfortunately, as it looks now, the Quechua Tab will probably never be released. The difference between the two is the RRP price, the Quechua Tab was going to retail for 279.99€ while the G1 will hit the market at the budget friendly 225€. The G1 is not going to be a high-end tablet, but its price is not going to be high-end either. If you ask us, 225€ we find it a fair amount of money for a IP54 certified tablet with a 3G simcard slot. The only thing we wonder is how well a rugged tablet aimed at technical professionals will sell, while having Angry Birds and World of Goo pre-installed on the start screen.
